Stop Obstructionist Republican Filibustering!

The Senate's recent return to session after the August recess brings renewed calls for action on important pieces of legislation. But it will take Republicans breaking from their party's obstructionist practices to affect real change for America.

Filibustering is a tradition in the U.S. Senate - but it's one that has been abused by Republicans in the 110th Congress. Republican Senators have already filibustered 92 times. That's not invoking a time-honored tradition. That's abuse.

The Democrat-sponsored bills Republicans have filibustered would have extended middle class tax cuts, repealed oil company tax breaks and used the funding to fund renewable energy programs, created timetables for withdrawal from Iraq, lowered gas prices, addressed global warming and reduced carbon emissions.

Tell Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell: Republicans must cease obstructionist filibusters, and take action to get bills on these issues passed!
Dear Senator McConnell,

As Senate minority leader, you have influence over the Republican senators, and I write today to urge you to cease the GOP's obstructionist filibustering. Your party's filibusters have blocked some excellent legislation so far in this session, and I hope that you will stop employing this petty tactic on issues that are important to me.

Specifically, I am interested in legislation that would:
-extend middle class tax cuts
-repeal oil company tax breaks, and use the funding to fund renewable energy programs
-create timetables for withdrawal from Iraq
-lower gas prices
-address global warming and reduce carbon emissions

Republican filibusters have killed legislation that would accomplish these goals already; I urge you to work with the Democrats to overcome objections to these bills. Please stop your record-setting filibusters and instead work together to bring the change America needs.

Thank you for working toward passage of bills that address these issues that are important to me.
