Auckland City Council, without fair consultation has forced the closure of Hysteria, New Zealands only Rock, Metal, Punk and Alternative Bar. As a long time Customer of the BArm and having played there with a band, I am outraged by this, and so call on everyone to help me to force them to reconsider

Save Hysteria Bar
14th of April 2007.
To all our customers,
I would firstly like to thank you for all your custom during the last two years. It is unfortunately with a sad heart I
have to inform you that Hysteria Rock and metal bar has been forced to close down by the Auckland City Council
for what we consider to be a totally unfair and an unjust decision.
1. On the 29th of March the directors of the company found out that the club had a continuing noise issue
while pursuing our license renewal. Within 12hours of our enquiry the council moved to have an Abatement
notice served on the directors of the company with this being issued on the 30th of March. We were given 4
days to comply with this notice.
2. During the next week, my legal people have dealt with the Auckland City Environmental department and
have complied with the abatement notice completely. We have also made certain changes to the club
including installation of further sound proofing and limiting the number of live performances until the issue
can be completely rectified. The environmental department has now been satisfied in regards to the
abatement notice as we have complied with it totally.
3. On the 4th of April, our consultants where advised that our current liquor license would not be renewed, and
with our current one expiring on the 6th of April, were told to cease trading the evening of that day. The
reason given was due to the existing abatement notice.
4. We lodged a further application to have our license renewed on the 10th of April, but have now been
informed that they now do not consider the applicant and premises to be suitable for the purposes the
license is being requested for and have declined again to issue a liquor license to the premises.
We consider the overall handling of this matter to be not only appalling, but to be totally unjust. There has been
very little, if any consultation or consideration given the bar, staff or people that attend our premises. We also
consider the total lack of discussion and assistance in this matter to be completely wrong and shows no
consideration for the people it is affecting.
Lastly, I can only apologies to the people this situation has affected;
• The bands whose performances we have had to cancel
• The supporters of these bands that have either purchased tickets or have come along on the day to see
these bands
• My staff, for the uncertainty this situation has provided for them
• And for the people of Auckland City that enjoy Rock, Heavy metal or punk music which we specialize in. The
closure of HYSTERIA has resulted in the closure of one of the last club specializing in YOUR music.
