Demand the Public Option!

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Mike Capuano for U.S. Senate
We can't waver now. As the House and Senate are gearing up for a vote on our health care overhaul, we need to let our elected officials know: Any bill MUST include a public option -- with no trigger.

We must end the troubling disparities in access to care and health outcomes between insured and uninsured Americans as Congress continues working to reform our nation's health care system. And the best way to do that is with a bill with a strong public option.

Health care reform must achieve universal access. Tell your senators that you demand a public option!

Dear Senator [Name],

I am wholeheartedly in support of a strong public option, and as your constituent, I ask that you vote for a health care bill that contains a public option.

Such compromises like the "trigger" plan are not acceptable, as they will not provide universal access in the manner that our American people so desperately need. We must end the troubling disparities in access to care and health outcomes between insured and uninsured Americans as Congress continues working to reform our nation's health care system. And the best way to do that is with a bill with a strong public option.

Thank you for your support of a strong public option.

Sincerely,

Though those who claim to oppose the public option (generally because either they do not understand it or have been deliberately deceived regarding its meaning) are vocal, they are no more a majority than those who oppose civil rights in general. Health care is a right, and as a modern nation we should be ashamed that so many of our citizens are inadequately covered in the case of injury or illness.

A public option, or at a minimum a non-profit insurance option, is the only path to curb the abuses that are rampant in our for-profit health insurance system. Please act to reform health care now!

Please do not be swayed by all the noise from the opposition they are NOT the majority. I have been a health care worker for 30 years working mostly in public hospitals. We have no other choice but provide a public options so most all people will be covered by health care. I do vote and I will remember how you vote on this issue.

I cannot fathom why you, Sen. Lincoln, are opposed to a public option; you've never bothered to articulate clearly why that is. You ran as a Democrat. That means you signed to support the Democrat platform. Your constituents are in a state that is 48th in health care. HOW CAN YOU NOT VOTE TO CORRECT THIS???? Until I hear a clear articulation of your opposition that makes sense, I guess we'll have to assume the worst. That's unfortunate. Three in this household have voted for you each election cycle. If you vote against the public option, we'll have to vote against you. I hope you'll find your moral compass on this issue and vote to support a strong public option.
