Right now, governors across the U.S. are trying to pay down the state deficit by using funds specifically raised for tobacco prevention. This questionable practice not only threatens our children but the integrity of our state governments.

Smoking prevention programs save money and lives! The state of California saved $100 million in health care costs within seven years of starting tobacco prevention programs, $11 million of which were saved in the first two years of the programs! Let's successfully save money and the lives of our kids in our state!

Please use tobacco money as it was meant to be used - to protect our children from tobacco addiction.

i was introduced to tobacco when i was 14 years old. back then it was only $ .26 a pack. i have tried and tried and tried over the years to quit. it would be nice for the money that the states are rceiving from the lawsuits to have programs for the children but also to have free programs for those of us who would really like to quit. the way it is, it costs more to buy the items needed to quit than it does to buy cigarettes. health insurance companies do not cover these items.

It's misuse of funds. In 1972 in Ohio we were told if we voted in a stste lottery, our schools would get part of the money, which meant no more money issues for schools. That turned out to be a big lie as usual.

So I'm a smoker and was disappointed that the tobacco companies lost. BUT, it is unconscionable for the states to misappropriate what they consider a 'windfall' for their personal pork projects.

This is a serious issue in the health of our nation. It is especially important to target the youth population, as they are our future and need to be informed early about smoking's detrimental effect on their health!!

MSA monies were intended to combat the ill effects of tobacco use. Yet in Nevada, Gov. Guinn uses 40% of the settlement money to fund a scholarship program which has nothing to do with tobacco prevention or cessation.

Because for too long the companies have been using advertising to hook people onto this addiction. They know the consequences now. Get out of tobacco and grow some other products beneficial to people. Admit your mistakes.' Don't turn teens onto smoking!!

This money should be used to educate kids about NOT using tobacco and to help help those already addicted to permanently kick the habit.. not for medical for illiegal immigrants (as in Arizona), etc.

Money spent on tobacco prevention today helps save each state thousands of dollars in the future by having fewer patients in our hospitals suffering from the effects of life-long tobacco use.

This money should be used to advertise about the results of using tobacco, such as what a healthy lung looks like vs. what a smoker's lung looks like, and the medical bills that often result from using tobacco. Do YOU want this to happen to YOUR children?

Health is one of our most important challenges. Tobacco is one of the worst health offenders. We need to use the Tobacco prevention money to encourage our youngsters not to smoke. The overall savings in health costs should greatly outweigh any advantage from spending the money any other way...

This money was meant to save lives and deter children from smoking, not to help the state in its financial crisis. We should definitely not accept a one time payout from the tobacco industry over the health of citizens.
