Tell Tony Abbot, the Australian Prime Minister, to either stop calling himself a Christian or start being one?!

Jesus taught that we should love our neighbours and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The parable of the good Samaritan was intended to illustrate that you should help anyone in need, regardless of who they are.

Also, Mr Pope, you have said that world leaders need to address climate change and global warming to prevent disastrous impacts on our and our children's futures.

There is also not supposed to be any lying.

Tony Abbot and his government have a disgraceful Antichristian record of human rights abuses in their treatment of asylum seekers and refugees who have and are coming to Australia. They are being returned secretly to the countries from where they are fleeing persecution or they are sent to detention in prison camps, called detention centres, where people have been killed and children, women and men are sexually and violently abused. They are denied proper medical and psychological treatment or education and the Government has now passed a law making any 'Trusted person' including teachers and medical staff subject to 2 years jail if they speak about conditions in these centres. This on top of the ongoing and increasing abuse of Aboriginal peoples through cuts to services, failure to address the issue of incarceration rates for Aboriginal people and 'health services' which are increasing the gap between health and life expectancy in Aboriginal and the wider communities.

On climate this Government has reduced, and tried to eliminate the Renewable Energy Target, sacked the independent Climate Commission, banned the Renewable Energy Agency from investing in Wind Farms and small scale photovoltaic development. At the same time it has promoted the development of the Galilee basin coal mine which will alone produce enough green house gasses when the coal is burnt to push us two thirds of the way to the 2 degrees of global warming limit. They pushed the approval through without due consideration of the environmental effects on the site and this has been challenged in the High Court and the approval overturned. Their response has been to change the law to prevent anyone but local farmers from challenging such projects so that the approval can be granted again without challenge. They have also launched a public dis-information campaign designed to discredit the people who oppose this on environmental grounds as trying to prevent any economic development at all when the opposite is the case. The opposing group want to promote development of clean energy technology and an economy with a future using the tens of billions of taxpayers dollars which this and State Governments are using to subsidise this coal development and other fossil fuel companies.
