Call on Congress to Support the Water for the World Act

Americans like you who Believe in ZERO, through your support for UNICEF, help bring safe water and better hygiene to children every day. But UNICEF needs donor governments, including the U.S. Government, to help out.

That is the purpose of the bipartisan Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act (H.R. 2901). Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Ted Poe (R-TX) want to strengthen America’s ability to help improve access to clean water and sanitation for the most vulnerable people in the world. They build on the landmark Water for the Poor Act of 2005, which at long last made safe drinking water and sanitation a priority of U.S. foreign development assistance, helping children around the world survive and thrive.

Please contact your legislators and ask them to cosponsor and support this important piece of legislation!
Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to urge you to cosponsor H.R. 2901, the Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act, sponsored by Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX).

As Americans, most of us take clean water and basic sanitary facilities for granted. Yet an estimated 768 million people do not have access to safe water, and 2.5 billion people live without proper sanitation. Diarrhea and disease caused by lack of safe water and poor sanitation kill thousands of children a day worldwide.

Having clean water and good sanitation does more than save lives, it builds futures. When children no longer struggle with recurring illness, they can go to school and get an education. Girls, especially, often miss out on school because they spend hours every day collecting water from distant sources. When schools lack appropriate sanitation facilities, girls are more likely to drop out. UNICEF reports that over half of the world's schools lack safe water and sanitation.

I believe that ZERO children should die or miss school due to unclean water or poor sanitation. H.R. 2901 reinforces U.S. investment in water and sanitation worldwide. It does not propose a new and expensive program; it would help make current programs more efficient, better targeted and more transparent.
Please help save the lives of children around the world by cosponsoring the Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act. I look forward to your response. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
