IN SPRING TILL AUTUMN PREGNANT MARES ARE BLED TO DEATH IN URUGUAY Here in Uruguay, even though there is an welfare law it is mostly applied for what they consider pets, but it is definitely not an animal rights law, so they treat the rest of the animals as animal production things for their use and abuse, where non profit humane organizations for ANIMAL RIGHTS in Uruguay aren’t taken into account and leave us without legal tools for animal protection (eg. Experimentation with law 16.611, African rituals with animals where they are bled to death, zoos with animals, circuses with animals, cruel events with animals according to the approval of law 18.471) That is why since 2009 Mary Brown – ANIMAL HELP URUGUAY’s Founder has modified Law 5657 and started since then an International Petition for its approval so as to count on a fair law for ANIMAL RIGHTS and their protection. Uruguay is one of the few countries in Latin where pregnant mares go to extraction plants in 3 or 4 farms in Uruguay whose blood is exported as plasma, which is an essential component in the manufacture of contraceptives; the main laboratories are in Switzerland. Every 10 days, every pregnant mare is extracted a bucket of 7 to 8 litres of blood. This practice takes place at night when there is less organic activity, when they are sleepy, when the temperature is drops and the poor mares go into severe anaemia which causes the death of the non born foal and little later the mares death because of weakness. Plasma is separated, in a special way, packaged and sent to different countries especially to Switzerland, there is no disease control in Uruguay, none, those mares that have a short adult life because they live in a permanent state of anaemia, leaving them weak and wobbly. When cowboys to catch them for their blood extraction, they struggle so as to avoid this, because they feel awful after they are bled, refusing unsuccessfully at the NON ETHICAL and brutal treatment they receive at these farm establishments. Voy a contar un caso dramático que muchas veces me he limitado a comunicarlo pero hoy lo voy hacer, acá en el Uruguay se acaba de crear un Instituto de Defensa del Animal con un teléfono público, ha tenido mucha difusión sobre todo para mascotas, pero el Uruguay es uno de los pocos países en América que tiene plantas de extracción de plasma sanguíneo de yeguas preñadas que se exporta el plasma, es un componente esencial en la fabricación de anticonceptivos, cuyos laboratorios principales están en Suiza. A la yegua preñada se le saca cada 10 días un balde de piso de plasma, se lo hace en la noche cuando hay menor actividad orgánica, cuando hay poco de sueño, cuando la temperatura está más baja y la pobre yegua queda tambaleando de la anemia que le produce la extracción de 7 a 8 litros de sangre. Se separa el plasma, se trata de una manera especial, se envasa y se envía por avión expreso a Suiza, no hay ningún control sanitario en el Uruguay, ninguno, esas yeguas que tienen una vida adulta corta porque viven en un estado de anemia permanente y cuyos potrillos nunca nacen porque mueren prematuramente y se sangran alrededor de 15 yeguas preñadas por día, quedando las mismas, débiles y tambaleantes y cuando vuelven a tratar de atraparlas para el desangran las yeguas tratan de huir, rehusándose infructuosamente ante el trato absolutamente NO ETICO del trato que le dan a los animales en esos establecimientos. Una es una familia multimillonaria de San José muy cerca de Estación Rodríguez, hay otro en Flores y otro en el departamento de Florida, tan sucio es el negocio que los pagos a los proveedores del plasma de yegua preñada se hace fuera del Uruguay y fuera de Suiza en citas que se dan los negociantes con cheques de bancos que no están en ninguno de los dos países.
