Save Mountain Lions: Build Wildlife Corridors Over California Freeways!

On August 10, 2015, the mountain lion known as P-32 was struck and killed by a moving vehicle as he crossed Interstate 5 near Castaic. He was the only known male to travel out of the Santa Monica Mountains and wander north into other habitat areas. He was also the 12th cougar found dead on LA-area roads since 2002.

Katie Cleary, President of Peace 4 Animals, is heading this campaign to save California's mountain lions from extinction. "We must protect our wildlife, considering Los Angeles is one of the few large cities to still have mountain lions co-existing with humans and it may not be for very much longer if we don't come up with a plan to save them. That is why building wildlife corridors throughout the city would help to prevent them from being hit by cars when crossing busy California freeways."

Mountain lions need up to 200 square miles to call their own, and as Los Angeles is a concrete jungle, it's not surprising that these animals suffer this fate. We have the power to prevent more of these tragic deaths.

Sign the petition to request that Governor Brown and Transportation Secretary Brian Kelly incorporate wildlife corridors into their next budgets and to ask them to support the building of wildlife corridors all over the state of California to protect wild animals.

Dear Governor Jerry Brown and Transportation Secretary Brian Kelly,

We are writing this letter to bring to your attention a serious issue. Our California mountain lion population is decreasing rapidly, and we must protect them from extinction. Twelve cougars have been found dead on LA-area roads since a study began in 2002.

We are requesting that funding for the construction of wildlife corridors be placed in your next budget to prevent further mountain lion deaths on our state highways. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Katie Cleary
