Tell Congress to Stand Up For Better Online Protection

As you go Internet shopping during the holidays, YOU should have the right to decide whether your personal decisions can be tracked by online marketing companies. Especially by those companies that track your children while they're online.

Companies argue this tracking helps them serve you better. That's fine -- if it is your decision. But right now these online trackers don't have to respect your choice not to be tracked. Nor do they have to follow parents' wishes when it comes to their own kids.

As millions of Americans do their holiday shopping online, we want to send a loud and clear message from those who want an enforceable right to say NO to online tracking. Congress has the power to make these companies listen to you -- tell your elected officials to act now to protect your family 's online activities.
Dear [Decision Maker],

Please add your name as a cosponsor to Do Not Track legislation. For my Representative, please cosponsor the Kids Do Not Track Act in the House. For my Senators, please cosponsor Do Not Track legislation currently filed in the Senate.

I feel like someone is watching me all the time when I'm online, and more disturbingly, when my children are online. "Cookies" can be placed on my family's computer that tell marketers what we like or might like so they can advertise to me. And last year it was revealed that "zombie cookies" can even come back once I've carefully deleted them.

I want a privacy law that would allow me to regain control over my personal information online and protect my children from unwanted tracking. I want to be able to opt out of online tracking, and I want clear mandatory privacy choices for my children.

Senator Rockefeller's "Do Not Track Online Act," Representative Jackie Speier's "Do Not Track Me Online Act of 2011" and the "Do Not Track Kids Act" by Representatives Markey and Barton will do just that. Your support as a cosponsor will help these good ideas move to final passage.
