Be Compassionate with Pakistani Christians Asylum Seekers Stranded in Thailand and other neighbouring countries

Over 4000 members of Christian Community from Pakistan had fled the country due to human rights violations and discrimination. Most of them have taken refuge in the Thailand and neighboring countries.

It is well known fact that the Christians in Pakistan are being persecuted under the blasphemy laws 295B&C. These laws are being exercised against all the minorities to settle the personal scores. The Christian colonies and Churches are attacked and burnt; the women are raped and forcefully converted to Islam. Moreover, the Christians are considered unclean, infidels and allies of the West and thus treated as third class citizens.

There is no help from the law enforcement agencies and therefore people have no choice except to leave the country to save their and their children lives.

An ex-Governor of Punjab Salman Taseer and a selected Christian Federal Minister Shahbaz Bhatti were killed because they suggested amending the infamous blasphemy laws.

The offices of the UNHCR had not been treating the applications of asylum seekers of Pakistani Christian equally as comparing to other communities from Pakistan.

According to reliable sources, the applications of asylum seekers of other communities are being prioritize whereas the members of Christian community from Pakistan are given very lengthy appointment dates. As the most of these countries had not signed the treaty with UNHCR, these people are asked to leave on the expiry current visa.

The asylum seekers are living in miserable conditions. The children are deprived of the education. There is no medical facility for sick people. In fact they go underground to escape deportation. A woman has been died in a Thailand detention center recently.

As a human being everyone feels pain and sufferings for those oppressed, marginalized and lack of rights. As a result the human rights champions of the world (European Union, USA and Canada) have shown the compassion to toward displaced Syrian.

It is humbly requested, if the same compassion may please be extended toward Christians of Pakistan stranded in Thailand and other neighboring countries.

Thank you.
