Sign the Pledge: End Violence Against Children Worldwide

Every five minutes a child dies as a result of violence. An estimated 120 million girls and 73 million boys have been victims of sexual violence, and almost one billion children are subjected to physical punishment on a regular basis.

Every day, in every country, millions of children are victims of violence in their homes, schools and communities.

But violence against children isn't an inevitable part of life. It's preventable.

For us to end violence against children, we need the participation of every stakeholder: governments, humanitarian organizations, civil society, the private sector, and more.

But we also need you...these children need you. We need individual citizens like you to get involved and be active in the movement to end violence against children. That’s why we’re asking you to sign this petition and pledge your commitment to ending violence against children.

Do your part. Stand with us and with the international community to support the end of violence against children. But more importantly, stand with these children as their voice to hold governments accountable.

By signing this pledge, you’re taking the first step to affirm the right of a child to grow up free from violence and exploitation. Take action today!

Our Pledge:

Every five minutes a child dies as a result of violence. An estimated 120 million girls and 73 million boys have been victims of sexual violence, and almost one billion children are subjected to physical punishment on a regular basis.

Every day, in every country, millions of children are victims of violence in their homes, schools and communities.

But violence against children isn't an inevitable part of life. It's preventable.

For us to end violence against children, we need the participation of every stakeholder: governments, humanitarian organizations, civil society, the private sector, and more.

There have been positive developments in the fight to end violence against children. Last year, 193 United Nations countries signed the Sustainable Development Goals, a far-reaching roadmap aimed at reducing poverty and inequality by 2030.

Goal 16.2 of the project specifically highlights the need to "end abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence against and torture of children."

Violence against children includes:

  •        Sexual violence such as child trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation and child marriage;

  •        Physical violence such as corporal punishment, physical abuse and female genital mutilation; and

  •        Emotional violence such as mental and verbal abuse, exposure to domestic violence and various forms of neglect.

SOS Children's Villages  works in 134 countries with different social and cultural contexts, which gives us a broad understanding of the reality in which children and families live around the world.

We recently joined a global initiative called the End Violence Against Children Global Partnership, which supports the efforts of those seeking to prevent violence, protect childhood, and help make societies safe for children.

Will you join us? Take action today!
