The belugas of Cook Inlet, Alaska, are in such trouble that they should be listed under the Endangered Species Act. And the time to act is now, before the determination is made!
Troubles come to Cook Inlet in many forms. Cook Inlet oil drill tailings spew into the sea. Municipal sewage is only treated primarily; rain run-off and storm overflows unchecked. Oil tankers are not required by the Coast Guard to be escorted. Ship traffic through Cook Inlet is increasing with Anchorage Port exceeding the projected tonnage growth rate of 2.5 percent per year. Potential coal development remains a prospective threat.
The Cook Inlet beluga population has declined dramatically from 1,300 in the late 70s to only around 300 today. ESA listing will mandate creation of a comprehensive management plan for these beluga whales and for the health of Cook Inlet. Add your comments to the petition letter today!
We took action on “Save the Beluga Whales of Cook Inlet, Alaska”!

Please list the Cook Inlet beluga whale under the ESA as an endangered species. I have been fortunate to see this species and it is a memorable experience of my life. The Cook Inlet region should be managed to protect this unique population of beluga. The earth's genetic diversity is priceless and its protection should be given top priority.

Please help ensure that these beautiful animals, along with so many other artic species that are in grave peril due to global warming, are around for my children and grandchildren to see and appreciate. Once we lose a species the damage is irreparable.

Humans have the ability to fight back.. Animals don't. We as humans have a responsibility to do our part in helping the eco-system and humanity. Its easy to turn the other cheek, while animals suffer. Please do your part!

Please, help save the belugas of Cook Inlet! I love sea animals because they are so mysterious and beautiful to me. We should help save and preserve that natural beauty for all to see!

As a child growing up in Alaska (in Kenai) I use to watch the beluga play at the mouth of the Kenai River as did my daughters as they were growing up. It was a thing of great awe and beauty. I would love for my grand children and others for years to come to be able to enjoy this beautiful sight. Why is it that to supposedly better "human kind" we have to destroy things of great beauty?

Please consider the NMFs recommendations and list the beluga whaes as an endangered species. Here in the UK we admire these mammals from afar. Act now so future generations can enjoy the beluga whale. A big PLEA from my toddlers and babies group, who sing about beluga whales every week.

Our world is slowly decaying and will eventually leave nothing on this earth. Before that happens, wouldn't it be nice to have living breathing animals to look at and show future generations instead of pictures in books?
Our heavenly Father entrusted this world and all of His creatures to *us*. We need to take care of them for Him!
Do you really want the belugas to not be a part of the world one day? I do not want to teach my children of so many animals that use to be. Please save these valuable creatures so future generations can see them in some other form than a book or picture....face to face, hopefully!

What is wrong with the corporations that they are not held accountable & only reep the rewards instead of being held responsible for their actions? Would they let their children or even themselves, swim in these waters unprotected? Unfortunatley the beluga does not have a voice to help them, that's why it is our duty to protect them. Why must humans destroy & not nourish what is so precious? Fight for what is right!

It's time that we step up to the plate and take care of our responsibilities as these animals like our children are precious. They are unable to ask for the help needed, it's up to us to provide them the care they deserve.

The animals of the world are already being affected by human activity it is important that we try to save as many animals we can from human harm. Recently the Cook Inlet Beluga Whale has been affected by off drill oiling and their population is steadily decreasing. But with your help we can protect them by allowing them to be considered an endangered species.
