Tell your Senators: Don't Let Oil & Gas Be the Only Voice in Government

President-elect Trump's nomination of ExxonMobil's CEO for Secretary of State is another sign that he is putting the interests of the oil and gas industry ahead of the interests of the American people.

Climate change and the global shift to clean energy are defining foreign policy challenges of our time. But if Rex Tillerson is approved as Secretary of State, we'll have the chief executive of the world's largest shareholder-owned oil-and-gas company sitting at the negotiating table.

Tell your Senators: Don't let industry allies alone run the country.

I am extremely concerned about Rex Tillerson's nomination.

Dear Senator,

I am writing today to request that you ensure a strong balance in President-elect Trump's administration.

President-elect Trump's nomination of ExxonMobil's CEO for Secretary of State is another sign that he is putting the interests of the oil and gas industry ahead of the interests of the American people. Where are the voices in this administration to counter the influence of oil executives and allies?

Please ensure a reasonable balance of voices to protect the health of all Americans. That balance is notably absent from the nominees put forward the President-elect, who as recently as December 11 refused to accept the established science of climate change.

A majority of Americans still want our government to act to protect us from climate change. Please ensure our leaders follow through on that responsibility, and do not let industry rewrite America's clean air standards and bedrock environmental protections.
