Petition Against the Deportation of H. S. CHOH

  • by: aerim kim

North Korean refugee mother, Youngae Ma was reunited with her sixteen-year-old son, Hyosung Choi. Youngae escaped first. Hyosung soon followed his mother's path and made his way to South Korea. (North Korea is well known for its cruelty, and produces almost 200 refugees a week who are constantly being deported because of the failure of the world community to recognize these refugees as refugees. Many countries call them illegal immigrants and China, who shares a border with North Korea, constantly sends back refugees into North Korea, who are then to be sent to prison camps.) Youngae tried to bring Hyosung to America, but the South Korea government refused Hyosung a visa. Hyosung tried passing the Mexican border, but was arrested by the border guard in Texas. The Citizen and Immigration Service ordered Hyosung to be deported back to South Korea. Sign to keep this refugee in America.

Hyosung has gained 30,000 signatures, however, he is hoping to gain many more in order to show the U.S. government that this issue is being recognized and being exposed to the American people.

To The Court,

Please allow Youngae Ma to keep her son in America. A refugee's life is tough, and now that the two have escaped destitution, the fact that they must also suffer in the land of the free is outrageous and unbelievable. North Korean refugees are not recognized as refugees from the world community because of their ties to North Korea, they must live in destitution even after they escape from North Korea, and are treated as illegal immigrants in all countries. When they finally come to South Korea, they are told to keep their mouths shut about the North Korean government. These people suffer from poverty and live in the ghettos of South Korea, and when they finally arrive at America, they are treated no differently. The fact the South Korean government refused Hyosung Choi a visa is ridiculous, and now that Hyosung has been pushed to cross the border illegally once again, he must face deportation from one of the only countries he can count on. He has suffered so much, even the loss of his father because of an execution from the North Korean government because his mother escaped North Korea. The North Korean government is merciless, and no boy without his parents can endure such cruel treatment in a hostile country. Please let him stay, these refugees have suffered enough, and the fact that our government will not budge to recognize them is ridiculous, let alone deportation. Our government can view him as an illegal immigrant by law, but the fact of the matter is that he is a refugee who just wants to live with some kind of freedom and dignity like any human being. A person can be pushed so much, and he is only 16 years old hoping to stay with the only person he can trust, his mother.
