Demand Justice for Rape Survivors

Testing rape kits is essential to discover the truth in sexual assault cases and bring perpetrators to justice for their crimes.

Tragically, sexual assault survivors across America have been denied justice as tens of thousands of rape kits have been left untested, some forgotten, some left untested at labs for lack of funding.

No rapist should be allowed to walk free and threaten our communities — and no survivor's trauma should be ignored — because sexual assault reports are improperly investigated.

To help clear the backlog of untested rape kits, the Obama Administration has requested Congressional approval for $41 million — less than one quarter the cost of a recently passed tax break for rum producers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Take a stand for justice for sexual assault survivors. Please urge your Representative and Senators to fully fund the administration's request right now.

Dear [Decision maker],

As someone who cares about justice for sexual assault survivors and public safety, I strongly urge you to support full funding for the $41 million request to help clear the backlog of untested rape kits in President Obama's proposed FY2016 budget.

Across the country, survivors of sexual assault have been denied justice because law enforcement agencies have failed to test rape kits.

These kits are vital to establishing key details in sexual assault investigations. When they are left untested, rapists walk free and survivors are forced to live in fear that their attacker may strike again.

This is an outrage that you can correct. The Obama Administration’s FY2016 budget includes $41 million to help clear the backlog of untested rape kits, and I hope you will support full funding for this important initiative.

Thank you for considering my comments. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
