Ranchers have many options to protect the herd from predators, such as geese or guard dogs, but unfortunately a few pellets of poison in some steak are a cheaper option. I push for subsidizing ranchers costs for losses, or alternative control measures.

The Cougar Plan was voted down by the legislature. The voters have repeatedly voted down ballot measures that would allow bating and trapping of Cougars and other cowardly tactics like hound hunting which isn't hunting because it takes no skill. ODF&W is breaking the laws they are supposed to enforce. Fire them all. Throw them in jail.

2,724 9:30 am PDT, Mar 13 Anonymous Oregon The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (which should rightfully be named the Department of Fishing and Hunting) is using this study to justify overturning a law that the voters approved in 1994, a law which has withstood many attempts to overturn it. The latest ODFW gaffe was that they accidently killed a couple of cougar two and a half miles outside of the study area. A couple hundred yards, I could see that, but over two miles out of the area? C'mon. So what is ODFW doing about it? Nothing except expand the study area. This "study" is flawed as is most of the things that come from this State Agency which, by the way, has almost no oversight from our elected officials. ODFW needs to be reined in and held accountable for their heavy-handed, just-kill-it, we-don't-have-to-listen-to-the-voters, contradictory regulations.
