Ovarian cancer is a complex illness, with symptoms that can be written off as normal female hormone changes. As a result, sometimes women ignore their symptoms, thinking they will go away, and by the time they realize they have ovarian cancer, it's too late.
This is a huge problem. Nearly 30,000 American women are expected to die this year from all gynecologic cancers!
In 2007, Congress approved Johanna's Law that awarded three year's worth of funding to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to increase awareness of the symptoms of gynecologic cancers. But the funding is about to run out.
Urge your Representative to become a co-sponsor for the reauthorization of Johanna's Law: The Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act.

Ovarian cancer is very real. I suffer from benign cysts on my ovaries that cause pain from time to time when I sit or lay down. Because of our terrible health care system, I cannot afford to have anything done. I can not even afford the medication given to me to help treat my ovarian problems! |
