Bring Awareness to Ovarian Cancer

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Ovarian cancer is a complex illness, with symptoms that can be written off as normal female hormone changes. As a result, sometimes women ignore their symptoms, thinking they will go away, and by the time they realize they have ovarian cancer, it's too late.

This is a huge problem. Nearly 30,000 American women are expected to die this year from all gynecologic cancers!

In 2007, Congress approved Johanna's Law that awarded three year's worth of funding to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to increase awareness of the symptoms of gynecologic cancers. But the funding is about to run out.

Urge your Representative to become a co-sponsor for the reauthorization of Johanna's Law: The Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act.

Dear Representative,

As a constituent and someone who cares deeply about gynecologic caner, I urge you to become a co-sponsor of Johanna's Law: The Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act of 2009.

[Your comment will be inserted here].

With funding from previous years, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has begun an educational campaign to make women and their health care providers aware of the symptoms of gynecologic cancers.

However, if we are to effectively protect American women from the dangers of gynecologic cancers, more time and funding are needed!

Nearly 30,000 American women are expected to die this year from gynecologic cancers. But by supporting this piece of critical legislation that promotes awareness of the subtle symptoms of gynecologic cancers, we can begin to reduce these numbers.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

Single-payer Health Care is a MUST! Stop women dying from all sorts of gynecologic cancers; even when such cancers are diagnosed, women often cannot afford to pay for treatment! I had an ovarian cyst that turned out to be benign, when it was removed by surgery. These problems are more common than is recognized.

Ovarian cancer is very real. I suffer from benign cysts on my ovaries that cause pain from time to time when I sit or lay down. Because of our terrible health care system, I cannot afford to have anything done. I can not even afford the medication given to me to help treat my ovarian problems!

The earlier cancer is recognized, the better are the chances to successfully treat and cure it. That saves money and lives.

This support is a must--more time and funding are needed. People are dying because of our lack of action!

It's important to raise awareness because no woman should have to go through this! My mother died of endometrial cancer. It was a long, heart breaking , wrenching experience for all involved, most of all my mother.
