Give Homosexuals Their Marriage Rights!

In the election of 2006, Amendment 43 to the Colorado Constitution was passed.  This amendment defines a marriage as a union of one man and one woman.  Same-sex couples are not allowed any of the benefits given to married couples and their children. This amendment is unconstitutional. Section 3 of the Colorado Bill of Rights states that "All persons have certain natural, essential, and inalienable rights, among which may be reckoned the right of enjoying and defending their lives and liberties... and of seeking and obtaining their safety and happiness."Many Christians object to same-sex marriages because they believe same-sex couples are sinful and degrading to their own union.  If these sects are the reason for the addition of Amendment 43 to the Constitution, then that is preferential treatment of a religion.  Section 4 of the Colorado Bill of Rights states that "...Nor shall any preference be given by law to any religious denomination or mode of worship."This amendment needs to be repealed! Same-sex couples should be allowed the rights available to everyone else. You do not have to be a citizen of Colorado to sign this petition.
To Fern O'Brien, Attorney General of ColoradoWe, the undersigned, herby petition the Attorney General of Colorado to bring before the Supreme Court of Colorado the issue that Amendment 43 is unconstitutional, as it denies same-sex couples and their children the legal benefits and protections that are available to married couples and their children.Section 3 of the Colorado Bill of Rights states that "All persons have certain natural, essential, and inalienable rights, among which may be reckoned the right of enjoying and defending their lives and liberties... and of seeking and obtaining their safety and happiness."Many Christians object to same-sex marriages because they believe homosexuality is a sin and is degrading to their own union.  If these sects are the reason for the addition of Amendment 43 to the Constitution, then that is preferential treatment of a religion.  Section 4 of the Colorado Bill of Rights states that "...Nor shall any preference be given by law to any religious denomination or mode of worship."We believe that marriage is a benefit that should be available for all legal adults, regardless of sexual orientation.
