Demand New Energy Now!

Target: House of Representatives; U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Care2
Are you ready for cleaner solutions to our energy needs?

With the midterm election just around the corner, now is the time to make Clean Energy part of the national agenda.

As a first step, ask your reps to support these important bills:
  • Higher fuel economy standards (H.R. 3762) - This bill would increase fuel economy standards from 25mpg to 33mpg by 2016.
  • The Energy for Our Future Act (HR 4384) - This bill calls for renewable energy and energy efficiency. If passed it would save oil, reduce energy bills, and repeal tax breaks for Big Oil.
  • HR 5642, the Safe Climate Act, and S. 3698, the Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act – These bills outline long-term global warming solutions by setting achievable goals for reducing greenhouse gas pollution.
Ready to make clean energy part of the national agenda? Sign the petition to let Congress know that you support these important bills; they should too!
deadline: 10-9-2007

Dear Congressperson,

As your constituent, I strongly encourage you to base your energy platform - and your votes in Congress - on the following principles:

**Higher fuel economy standards. Use existing technology to make cars go further on a gallon of gas, reducing oil consumption, smog, and global warming pollution. Please support HR 3762 which would increase fuel economy standards from 25 mpg to 33 mpg by 2016.

**Renewable energy and energy efficiency. We have homegrown technologies that reduce our dependence on oil. Please support HR 4384, the Energy for our Future Act, which saves oil, reduces energy bills, and repeals tax breaks for Big Oil.

**Long-term global warming solutions. Make America a world leader in reducing global warming pollution. Please support HR 5642, the Safe Climate Act, and S. 3698, the Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act, which set achievable goals for reducing greenhouse gas pollution.

**Protection of America's special places. Keep our wilderness areas wild, our coasts free of drilling, and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge intact. Please invest in new energy technologies rather than destroying precious places in the U.S.

This is a sensible approach to help solve our major energy problems. We have the solutions - we just need to apply them!

I am counting on you, as my elected representative, to put America back on the right track and secure a better energy future for us.

Sincerely,

We need new energy sources, not just to preserve the environment, but to reduce our dependency on oil from the Middle East, and hopefully stop Saudi Arabia from meddling with our economy and politics.
