Stop tax breaks for shooting animals in fenced enclosures

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Humane Society of the United States
VICTORY UPDATE: Congress voted to outlaw tax breaks for trophy hunting! No longer will hunters be allowed to shoot wild and rare game in order to get a tax break through the "charitable" donations of their kill. Thanks from Care2 and the Humane Society of the United States for helping to make this wildlife victory possible!
------------------------------------------------------

Did you know trophy hunters can write off their canned hunts and big game safaris at taxpayers' expense?

As reported in a front-page expose in The Washington Post, wealthy hunters have been killing a few "extra" animals, donating the trophies to pseudo-museums, inflating the value of these trophies and then taking a huge tax deduction for their "charitable" contribution (to "museums" that are sometimes in someone's basement or even abandoned railroad cars).

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-IA) has tightened up the part of the current tax code that deals with charitable donations to solve this problem. His changes are part of a massive "tax reconciliation" bill, which passed the Senate November 18. The House passed a different version of the tax bill December 8 that did not address the taxidermy tax scam. Urge your U.S. Senators and Representative to make sure the final bill ends this tax scam immediately!

Every year, tens of thousands of wild animals are killed solely for their trophy value-including rare and endangered animals around the world. I am opposed to this pointless killing and disturbed that some trophy hunters have found a way to finance their expeditions by duping the IRS and American taxpayers. Please do all that you can to stop this abuse of taxpayer funds.

There is no excuse for neglect & abuse of animals. They bleed, suffer, and die just like humans do. Why should they suffer? What have they done to deserve such horrific, and cruel abuse? There's just no excuse. Their blood is on the hands of those who kill them, those who profit from the killings, and those who do nothing to stop it from continuing.

What can you say about this. It's appalling that it's done at all. To be given a cash incentive is to add greed to cruelty.

I truly am against the tax write off for this type of hunt, although I see NO differnce in killing a deer in a fence or cattle, chicken, etc on farms. Even the bible taught the lamb to be slaughtered was to be a 'pet'. In the home for 10 days before slaughtered for passover. (This was G-ds law, not manmade)

First, why should my tax dollars go to support your recreation and second, if you can't find something truely free to hunt, you must be a pitifully poor hunter. So stop it!

Oh yeah, makes alot of sense to give a tax break to someone who hunts and shoots an Animal in an enclosed area. Thats pathetic, cruel, and ignorant!!! How about the tax breaks to the people who need it and deserve it? The Little People who work their Butts off to keep The Country Going, The Blue Collar Worker! And those Who RISK THERE LIVES FOR OTHERS, AND KEEP US SAFE!!! No, you give tax breaks to the big pansies that have to have the animals they hunt inside a fence!!! Takes a big person to do that!! A big dumb--- person!
