Get the Shell Out of the Sacred Headwaters

The Sacred Headwaters is the source of three of North America's most important salmon-bearing rivers, and key habitat for moose, bears, and caribou. And it was just named as one of British Columbia's Most Endangered Rivers for the second year in a row. The reason: Royal Dutch Shell plans to drill for coalbed methane in this pristine area.

Shell wants to use 'fracking' to extract natural gas. It's a process so risky that some residents in Alberta and Colorado have actually been able to light their tap water on fire after fracking projects contaminated nearby water tables.

Shell has already built three drilling wells. They plan to add over 4,000 more.

Tell Shell to get their gear out of the Sacred Headwaters for good.
Subject: Walk Away From the Sacred Headwaters

Dear Mr. Voser, Ms. Mitchelmore, and Mr. Odum,
cc: Lynn Calder

I am writing to add my voice to those who oppose Shell's coalbed methane development in the Sacred Headwaters.

Shell's drilling plans threaten three critical salmon-bearing rivers, and will devastate important habitat for moose, bears, and caribou. People's communities, cultures and livelihoods are also at risk.

All municipalities and First Nations band councils within the three watersheds have voiced their opposition to your company's proposed development.

Widespread opposition to coalbed methane development in northwest British Columbia's Sacred Headwaters is only going to grow stronger.

It is irresponsible and unacceptable for Shell to continue to pursue this project, ignoring the will of the communities, and dismissing the interconnectedness between ecology and cultural values that have evolved over generations.

I call on Shell to withdraw from the Sacred Headwaters permanently.
