Do not punish those of us who are responsible owners. Our dogs are companions and members of our families. We can and do maintain our dogs so they do not pose a threat to anyone, so why should we be denied our companions simply because irresponsible owners of the same breed of dog, have not ethically and legally protected others from injury? Please retract your proposal for a breed ban/breed specific legislation. We the undersigned will never vote for any politician advocating the use of breed bans and or breed specific legislation. And for those undersigned that do not reside within your city limits, we will show our support against this proposal by not visiting your city now or in the future. This is not simply an issue in California, New Brunswick,  Chaigo, Canada, or any other city or country. Your proposal has reached the ears of EVERY responsible dog owner around the world.

I lost both of my APBT to old age, they both had healthy, happy and productive lives and because of our dedication to both of them they live to be 18 and 16 years old respectively. We will adopt other APBT again because these dogs deserve to have owners like myself and my husband. They are amazing dogs!

I have worked very hard to socialize, train and educate my pack so they can be a good example for the breed. There has never been any evidence that breed bans or restrictions contribute to improved public safety. There are countries that have lifted their breed bans, because the ban had not led to any decrease in dog bites. Banning Pit Bulls would cause pain and grief to families. I will use this quote. If you own a dog that has no record of aggression why should you be told that you can no longer own that daog due to the breed the dog is. I have two teenage boys. Also, we have a 9 year old niece and 13 year old nephew. We also have friends with children ranging from age 3-15 (3, 5, 9, 13, 15). These children love our dog when they were afraid of dogs before. I own one adopted American Pit Bull Terrier. The best breed in the world. I've owned "Boxers" for 14 years and thought they were the kindest breed of dog around. Well my mind has been changed. We adopted a one year old boy named "Koa" from a local animal shelter. He has changed our lives and aspects towards pit bulls. I have family who were very upset we adopted a "Pit Bull." Because of all the horror stories you hear in the media. Well, "Koa" has also changed their minds about the breed also.

When My older 15 year old dog was being "pushed around" by a larger dog at the dog park, my pit bull ran over, growled, and backed against the intruder forcing him away from the old dog. No biting, and 'Not a mean bone in her body. 26 of the 28 pit bull fatalities in the last 30 years were from male un-neutered Pit bulls. Apparently none of them were from "family dog" types of owners. No 15 over my lifetime.

I have 2 daughters ages 4 and 7 I own 2 dogs. A 15 lb Havanese and a 55 lb pit bull mix. I have also fostered 5 different dogs over the last year, miniature schnauzers, basset hound, husky, and a pit bull. My pit bull mix has been an exemplary foster brother.

I have never owned a more loving dog than my pit bull and I have owned dogs all my life not to mention I have saved many as well. Pit bulls are not the problem, people are. Yes, my dog is super gentle with my kids and has been in the house full of children dressed in Halloween costumes and acting silly during a party-she was very kind, gentle and had fun with the kids. I own three dogs. All have been "rescued" and I took a pitbull last time because the pounds were full of them due to ridiculous laws in our state.
