Affordable Housing Changes Lives

There is a serious rental crisis in B.C. The most recent rental housing data shows that more than 100,000 B.C. households are at risk of homelessness due to the significant increase in rental costs across the country.

Rent in B.C. has increased 30% from 2016 to 2021. This is the largest increase in any province in Canada!

According to the 2021 census, there are more than 660,000 renter households in B.C., and 105,000 of those households pay more than 50% of their gross income toward rent and utilities. Families and individuals cannot sustain this way of living.

With costs continuing to rise, people are becoming more and more at risk of homelessness due to the rental increase, despite sacrificing basic necessities just to pay rent. No one should have to continue living this way.

For over 80 years, Union Gospel Mission has offered programs and services to help people experiencing hardship, poverty and homelessness including transitional and affordable housing options, emergency shelter, meals and assistance with food hampers and other necessities. But we can't do it alone!
