Urge Congress to Permanently Protect the Arctic Refuge!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is home to caribou, snow fox and millions of migratory birds. It is also the most important onshore denning habitat for America's vanishing polar bears.

But this natural treasure is constantly under siege. Time and time again, the oil industry and their allies in Congress have sought to open this special place to harmful new drilling, threatening all of the wildlife that depend on it for survival.

We need to permanently protect the Arctic Refuge! Tell Congress to reject drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and to permanently protect this special coastal plain.

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I am writing today to strongly urge you to reject attempts to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and ensure that this special place is protected permanently.

The Arctic Refuge is not only home to caribou, snow fox and millions of migratory birds, it is also one of the most important onshore denning habitats for America's remaining polar bears.

These magnificent animals are struggling for survival with scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey warning that America's polar bears could be extinct by 2050. The Fish & Wildlife Service recently listed America's struggling polar bears as "threatened" on the Endangered Species List.

If drilling -- and the development that comes with it -- is permitted in this important habitat, polar bears may abandon their dens, leaving cubs to die.

drilling in an area where a protected species lives is above cruelty it is air headedness which is deplorable because you the congress are supposed to be the people who help and serve the country not kill off some of its most amazing wildlife think carefully what you do next will have a big impact on everyone

Don't we cause enough harm drilling already? I'd rather not our beautiful polar bears become extinct. We need to be looking towards relying on renewable energy sources instead of nonrenewable.

The Polar bear is important find other routes and measures in energy savings and conservation and let the polar bears roam in their migrant routes. P.S. Find a way to get the oil without destroying the land or it's in habitants. I know that I would greatly appreciate this. Look at all the animals that have disappeared from the United States not to mention the deforestation.

Please keep the arctic refuge safe from iol drilling. These animals need this habitate to safley live and procreate. Thank you.

Folks, I strongly urge you to put people as a higher priority than any animal(s). We need to become energy independent and using our OWN oil is one way to become independent of the middle east countries. It has already been proven that radical "Global Warming" is a lie, but I believe that using our own oil while we transition into alternative fuels is a necessary thing to do. The Polar Bears are just fine and when we get, as a nation to a point where we are totally energy independent by means of renewable fuels, we should drill and capture as much oil as we can to lower our citizens' expenses on heat, transportation, etc. As far as I am aware, the Polar Bear population has actually expanded over recent years. After United States Citizens are cared for first and the solution is found then return the cold places to the Polar Bears. Enough of Political Correctness! We found out at Fort Hood recently that Political Correctness kills humans. Please stop catering to various selfish interests like this one and take care of our United States Citizens. Stop legislating to special interests, your personal investments, and your election bank account. Sincerely, Reverend Stephen T. Kelly

The Fish & Wildlife Service recently listed America's struggling polar bears as "threatened" on the Endangered Species List. Drilling and the transportation and infrastructure needed to support it could wreak havoc on polar bears and the habitat they need to survive. There are around 400 crude oil and toxic spills every year at the Prudhoe oil field, just 30 miles west of the Arctic Refuge. I strongly urge you to reject any new attempts to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife.

Oil drilling has proven harmful to us. Just look at the oil spill of the coast of Australia. This will happen again. Leave some wilderness for my children and their children. A true adult protects and conserves, utilizing other proven technology that will achieve the same goals such as provide transportation, manufacturing, lubrication, and agriculture with it subsidiary industries. Hydro electric, geothermal, wind, and solar are all clean, renewable and don’t have the environmental impact. We also might just find that the pockets we create in the earth are contributing to the instability we are experiencing at fault lines is in part due to this. Joseph Torres
