Make Texas Animal Cruelty Laws Harsher
I have been strongly driven to create this petition because I have seen enough. I see dogs chained to fences. I see no fresh food or water for animals. I see animals with no shelter from the elements; this includes anything from dogs and cats to horses. If people can do these things and feel that nothing will happen to them then I am determined to make them wrong. I am determined to have the proper authorities remove the animals and condemn these people from getting any more. In addition, I will try as hard as I can to make these people pay large fines and possibly serve jail time.
Please help me in the fight to make Texas laws harsher in regards to animal cruelty. Three offenses before being considered a felony is too little. Let's make this an automatic state jail felony on the first offense. Animals depend on us as they are not able to speak for themselves. And by animals, I mean ALL...wild, domestic and homeless!
Please consider making the Texas Animal Cruelty Laws harsher and punishment stricter. Laws pertaining to animals should include ALL living creatures, regardless of make. Wild, domestic and homeless animals need to be protected by strict laws that will aim at discouraging neglect and abuse, whether intention, knowledge or neglect exist. The fact is, people are born with the freedom of choice, therefore, animal abuse and neglect are inexcusable.
In Texas, animal cruelty laws are considered Class A misdemeanors, which include fines up to 4,000.00, one year in jail; or both. A third offense is considered a state jail felony, which may include a fine up to 10,000.00 and 180-2 years in jail.
The goal is to make these laws stricter by lessening the times one may commit this offense from 3 to 1 and increasing the fine and jail time as well as changing the Class A misdemeanor to an automatic State jail felony or higher, depending on the severity of the cruelty or neglect.
We protect our children, who are innocent and helpless. Our animals are innocent and helpless, too. They, like children, depend on us to care for them and provide for them necessities such as food, water and SHELTER. Please help me make an impact on Texas Legislature and support my petition!
