Enforce Puppy Sale Standards in NY Pet Stores!

As the holiday season approaches, many New York shoppers plan to purchase a new puppy for their children and loved ones. Unfortunately, many dishonest pet stores continue to vend puppies from puppy mills, claiming that they come from small private breeders. As a result, shoppers unwittingly perpetuate the cruel puppy mill cycle and bring home pets that often fall ill.

According to a recent undercover investigation by the Humane Society of the United States, over 100 New York pet stores supply puppies obtained by inhumane commercial breeders. Over a four-month period in 2011, shoppers purchased more than 4,500 puppies from these stores.

Dogs bred and raised in puppy mills receive little or no medical care or exercise and are often confined in cramped wire cages. This often results in heartbreak when new pets fall ill or die shortly after the holiday season.

Please sign the petition to enforce the standards of puppy sales in New York Pet stores.

We, the undersigned, were upset by a recent HSUS investigation that revealed 100 New York pet stores supplying puppies from inhumane commercial breeders including convicted animal abuser Kathy Jo Bauck and notorious puppy mill operator Brandi Cheney.  Dogs bred and raised in puppy mills receive little or no medical care or exercise and are often confined in cramped wire cages.

In addition to being cruel to animals, puppy mills cause extreme heartache among children and families when new pets purchased from dishonest pet stores later become seriously ill and often die.

Please enforce USDA standards for all breeders selling puppies to New York pet stores, or allow pet stores to supply only shelter dogs. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
