A downer is an animal too sick or injured to walk to slaughter. Despite cruel transport methods and evidence that they carry deadly diseases, downed animals are still slaughtered for human consumption.

Lets face it, anyone working in a slaughterhouse has become immune to all sense of caring for animal suffering. They butcher 1000s of animals a day, you have to be cold of heart to even last a few minutes on that line. I LOVE this petition and signed around 50 anti-slaughter Horse petitions so far. I ASK EVERYONE TO SIGN "Membership Input Futurity and Derby Plans" PETITION SOLELY TO TELL HIM TO STOP SLAUGHTERING HORSES. You can also email him and tell him not to slaughter Horses as a part of his business by clicking on his name on top. His excuse was that I'm not a member, but tens of non-members are signing his petition. Please help in the prevention of Horse Slaughter and sign Mr. Cunnningham's petition asking him to amend his rules stating not to slaughter and kill Horses but to instead send them to a sanctuary when they are unwanted? Stop Slaughter of Downed Animals for Human Consumption!
This petition is to urge the Food and Drug administration to grant petition 98P-0151/CP1, which would prohibit the slaughter of downed animals. Downed animals suffer horribly when they are moved into trailers to be sent to slaughter; they are routinely dragged with chains or pushed with tractors and forklifts, causing injuries ranging from bruises and abrasions to broken bones and torn ligaments. They are often denied food and water for days on end, and many die of exposure and neglect. There is also evidence that these sick, incapacitated animals carry a variation of Mad Cow disease, which causes "downer-cow syndrome." Upon conducting autopsies, Yale university found that over 10% of the supposed Alzheimers patients actually had died of CJD (a strain of mad cow disease). For the sake of the animals and for our own health, please sign this petition urging the FDA to grant petition number 98P-0151/CP1
