This petition calls upon High Peak Borough Council to take the problem of dog fouling more seriously

  • by: Steve Gill
  • recipient: High Peak Borough Council

Some people may be unaware of the health consequences of not clearing up after their dog. Dogs can shed vast numbers of Toxocara eggs each time they make a faecal deposit. These eggs can be ingested by humans, with children being most at risk, who can become ill and sometimes lose their eyesight as a result.

The current penalty fines for dog fouling are not severe enough to deter the minority dog owners who fail to clean up after their dogs in public places.

Dog owners who allow their dogs to foul pavements and other public areas, then leave it without cleaning up afterwards should be prosecuted with a heftier fine than the current penalty imposed. We ask for the High Peak Borough council to enforce  both the control act which came into effect in 2014 and the Dog (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
