New York State Legislators Need to Pass Equal Rights Amendment

We have an opportunity to pass a
New York State Equal Rights Amendement (ERA)

And guess what? Last year, our New York State legislators sat on a perfectly good bill that gives women equal rights in New York!!! Why have they not passed this bill?

Do the legislators of New York believe that women do not deserve equality? They want our vote. They want our support. But they will not pass an Equal Rights Amendment in New York State. For shame!!!

The proposed NYS constitutional amendment reads:

"Provides that no person shall because of sex be subjected to any discrimination in his or her civil rights by any other person or by any firm, corporation, or institution, or by the state or any agency or subdivision of the state."

When the 2007 legislative session begins in January, the National Organization for Women will be there, this petition in hand, lobbying for the passage of the ERA. Citizens of New York State, please show your support.

As a tax paying, voting citizen of New York State, I am amazed and embarrassed that the NYS Senate and NYS Assembly have not passed an Equal Rights Amendment to the NYS Constitution.

I support Senate #1864* introduced by Senator Thomas Duane and Assembly #3465*, introduced by Assemblymember Bing,
to establish an Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the New York State Constitution to insure that no person in the State of New York will be denied equal protection of the laws based on the sex of the person.

It is time that women in New York State enjoy full equality under the law. Women have been supportive constituents throughout the years, and it is time that legislators show their appreciation by passing S.1864/A.3465*.

* The bill numbers will change at the start of the new legislative session (January 2007).
