Keep Syrian Girls in School

UNHCR — the UN Refugee Agency — is making sure access to education is not a luxury, but a necessity so that refugees can shape their own destinies, rebuild their own countries and contribute meaningfully to the communities that offer them shelter and protection.

We are committed to keeping adolescent girls and young women in school who are especially vulnerable to early marriage, which can trap them in a life of domestic labor and sexual exploitation.

At least 10,000 adolescent Syrian girls live in Za’atari Refugee Camp in Jordan. There, an innovative UNHCR program called TIGER — These Inspiring Girls Enjoy Reading — provides an enriching environment where girls encourage each other to stay in school and set life goals and where Syrian women serve as supportive coaches.

Together, we can make sure that programs like TIGER thrive. Together, we can give refugee girls and boys their best shot at a bright and hopeful future. Please, sign our petition today.

Access to education is not a luxury — but a necessity that refugee girls and boys need to shape their own destinies, rebuild their own countries and contribute meaningfully to the communities that offer them shelter and protection.

It is vital that young women and girls stay in school who are especially vulnerable to early marriage, which can trap them in a life of domestic labor and sexual exploitation.

I stand with USA for UNHCR as it promotes innovative programs for refugee girls all over the world, including in Za’atari Refugee Camp in Jordan. There, through UNHCR’s program TIGER — These Inspiring Girls Enjoy Reading — adolescent girls receive support from both peers and female mentors to continue their educations and set life goals.

Please do everything you can to keep refugee girls and boys in school. Their education is the key to a bright and hopeful future.
