RIGHT NOW, the U.S. Congress is negotiating a comprehensive energy
bill, H.R. 4, to send to the President for signature. SIGN THIS
PETITION NOW to ensure that our national energy strategy promotes the
development of clean, safe and renewable wind power.
Final legislation should:
1) Extend the wind energy Production Tax Credit, a vital component to continued development of utility-scale wind projects.
2) Require that a certain percentage of power generation come from new renewable technologies, including wind energy.
3) Include a tax credit for the purchasers of small wind systems, used to power an individual home, farm or small business.
With just a little push from the government, renewable energy sources CAN compete with traditional energy technologies. Use our tax dollars to support innovation, not pollution!

I am writing to urge you to support important provisions that promote renewable energy in the energy policy bill (H.R.4) currently under consideration in conference committee. A strong energy policy bill that increases our use of renewable energy will help improve our nation's economic growth, public health, national security, and environment.
An extension of the wind energy Production Tax Credit (PTC) through December 31, 2006, is a vital component for the continued development of this important renewable energy resource. The PTC provides wind energy developers with a level of certainty and stability while the technology further matures and achieves the economies of scale that will allow wind to compete on a level footing with traditional forms of energy. Moreover, new wind energy projects provide significant economic development to rural America through jobs, lease income to landowners, and local tax revenue.
The Senate version of the bill contains a Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS), which would require 10 percent of all electricity production to be from renewable energy sources by 2020. The RPS is an achievable market-based system that allows different forms of renewable energy to compete with each other and provides flexibility to electricity providers responsible for meeting the requirements by implementing a credit trading system. The RPS will help diversify our nations energy supply, save consumers money, increase rural economic development and clean up our environment.
Consumer demand to take charge of their energy usage is growing. Small wind machines, used to power an individual home, farm or small business, are a viable means of power, particularly in rural areas. However, the costs for such machines are typically too high for the average consumer. Included in the Senate tax provision is a 30 percent Investment Tax Credit for the purchase of small wind turbines. This important provision will provide customers with an added incentive to purchase the machines as well as increase demand and help lower production costs.
