Tell Canada: Child Survival Matters to Me

Each year, 6.3 million children die before reaching their fifth birthdays, most from preventable causes. Every two minutes, the loss of a mother shatters a family and threatens the well-being of surviving children.

In 2010, Canada led the charge for increased investments in mother and child health. By 2013, the number of child deaths under 5 had decreased by 600,000. This clearly demonstrates the impact of Canadian and international commitments to ending preventable child deaths.

We need to continue making a difference and your voice counts. When Canadians advocated for child health in 2010 and 2014, the government responded with commitments and global leadership. Now we need to get the government to focus on the 230 million children who are still considered uncounted and invisible, living and dying without being registered in national health systems.

Declare your support for full and healthy lives for all children and mothers. Urge the Canadian government to help stop child deaths by prioritizing funding for the most vulnerable and hardest-to-reach populations.
Dear [decision maker],

I believe every mother and child deserves to live a full and healthy life. No one should die from preventable causes like malnutrition, malaria, pneumonia or birth complications.

I encourage the Government of Canada to continue to use development funding to support effective maternal, newborn and child health programs, and to prioritize funding for activities that target the most vulnerable and hardest-to-reach populations.
