Support Rapid Response to the Swine Flu

Target: Acting CDC Director Dr. Richard Besser; HHS Director Kathleen Sebelius
Sponsored by: Care2.com

More cases of swine flu (H1N1 flu) are being diagnosed in the United States each day. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the swine flu has lead to 141 confirmed cases and 1 death in the U.S. as of May 1.

It is important for all of us to stay up-to-date on the spread of this disease and know what we can do to protect our families, our communities and ourselves. Fortunately, the CDC has responded quickly and aggressively to the expanding outbreak by providing information to help health care providers, public health officials and the public to help reduce transmission and respond to the disease.

It's not often that we get to say thank you for a job well done. Please join us in recognizing their rapid communication about this public health emergency – and urge the CDC to continue providing timely and effective communication with health care providers, public health officials and the public.

Dear Acting CDC Director Dr. Richard Besser and HHS Director Kathleen Sebelius,

It's not often that we get to say thank you for a job well done. We appreciate the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) rapid response to the evolving public health emergency from influenza A (H1N1), or swine flu. It is important for all of us to stay informed about the spread of this disease, and to know the best practical approaches for protecting our families, our communities and ourselves.

As our schools, businesses and communities are taking action to slow the spread of this outbreak, we urge the CDC to continue providing timely and effective communication about the disease and its prevention with health care providers, public health officials, the media and the public.

We are being extra careful in terms of washing our hands and cleaning surfaces in our house. This is in large part due to information release from the CDC on how to protect yourself from the swine flu. I do appreciate being able to stay on top of information as we learn more and more about the flu. As I know and have read about the flu that mutated killing millions in the past I think it is extremely important that the CDC continues to do the excellent job it has been doing to keep the public informed and being careful by separating those who have been exposed to the virus until they are well. Great Job CDC!
