i worked in a community hospital for 3 years that was in a town with a huge immigrant population. i always found it remarkable that as soon as immigrant's children were born, social services did everything they could to quicklt get these children social security numbers and on the states medicaid programs. but native american children as well as children of long time america residents were left alone to do this for their own. many went without healthcare depending on the status of the parents.
