Unregulated Nanotechnology - Are Your Products Safe?

Sponsored by: Environmental Defense Fund
Nanotechnology -- the manipulation of matter at the atomic and molecular level -- has the potential to make groundbreaking advances in technology, medicine, and environmental clean up.

But we are jumping the gun -- we are commercializing nanotechnology without enough knowledge about the risks involved. Studies have shown that some nanoparticles can cause health risks such as lung damage, and may also be harmful to the environment.

Already, there are hundreds of products containing nanoparticles on the market, including sunscreen, anti-aging creams and food products. We are putting these chemicals in and on our bodies before they have been proven safe and we have got to stop before serious damage is done.

Nanotechnology should be our friend, not our foe. Tell your member of congress to address the potential risks of this important new technology before it's too late.

Dear Representative,

Nanotechnology -- the design and manipulation of matter at the atomic and molecular scale -- has the potential to make revolutionary advances in technology, medicine, and environmental remediation.

But we are jumping the gun -- nanotechnology is being commercialized without sufficient research on the risks involved. Studies have shown that some nanoparticles can cause health risks such as lung damage, and may also be detrimental to the environment.

We have already put hundreds of products containing nanoparticles on the market, including sunscreen, anti-aging creams and food products. We are putting these chemicals in and on our bodies before they have been proven safe, and we have got to stop before serious damage is done.

This is the future. Nano sized energy can penetrate anything good, bad or neutral. We all know how bad the problems we have now are. We need to stay on top of this new tech.

lets not get ahead of ourselves here...weve only had the airplane for 100 years...we have this tendency to jump into things before we have time to ease and test and feel things out...whether they are beneficial or not. lets give this a try.
