Press Senate on Climate Legislation

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: ONE
Climate change threatens to reverse the gains being made against poverty and disease in some of the poorest countries on earth. Countries such as Malawi, Kenya and Ethiopia face increased droughts, floods and storms, eroded coastlines, falling crop yields and the spread of waterborne and insect-driven diseases.

The House has already passed its climate change bill, but it only commits 1 percent of revenue to climate projects in the developing world. Estimates from experts at the World Bank and United Nations show that's not nearly enough to build all of the seawalls, dams and other important infrastructure that will allow vulnerable countries to meet the challenge of climate change head-on.

The Senate must do better. Ask your senators to make sure their bill includes that critical 5 percent for the world's poorest people, as the first step in a wide-ranging, global effort to help those most in need.

Dear Senators,

Please ask your leadership to make sure this year's Senate climate change legislation meets the standard set by last year's bipartisan Lieberman-Warner climate bill, and allocates 5 percent of any revenue to begin helping the world's poorest people overcome the threats posed by climate change.

this planet is a wonder. The mechanisms that occurred for this planet to exist are mind-boggling. So it is truly mind-boggling that humanity continues on the path to destruction of this world. We need brave, strong, leadership to save this world.

The unusually cooler summer we have had supports the concept of climate change---which unfortunately was termed "global warming"earlier on. Whatever happens in the poorest countries will eventually affect all of us in the developed world. It would therefore be in our interest to help them.

Please help those who can't afford it. There are far too many people barely being able to live in this economy.
