DIRECTV: Stop Spreading Wolf Stereotypes

A recent DIRECTV advertisement shows a lone man beset by wolves. The commercial is meant to tout the company's "frozen in place" feature, but it does it at the expense of the wolf, spreading dangerous stereotypes that can cause real harm to this already threatened animal.

This is a key time for wolves:

* The federal government is considering approval of a shoot-on-sight policy for wolves across much of Wyoming, including national forests

* Idaho is considering aerial gunning of wolves

* Just 50 Mexican gray wolves remain in the wild in Arizona and New Mexico

By airing this commercial, DIRECTV propagates the myth that wolves are dangerous man-killers and fuels anti-wolf sentiments in popular culture at a crucial time for wolf recovery.

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund is working to protect wolves and the vital role they play in the natural order. Please stand with them today and sign to ask DIRECTV to stop spreading wolf stereotypes.
Dear DIRECTV,

I'm writing you today to ask you to discontinue your advertisement that feature a man being attacked by wolves.

Wolves rarely threaten humans, and by propagating this myth you are putting wolves at risk.

[Your comments will be added here]

A plan in Wyoming would allow wolves to be shot on sight in much of the state including national forests. Federal officials are considering aerial gunning of wolves in northern Idaho. And just 50 Mexican gray wolves remain in the wild in Arizona and New Mexico, where poaching remains a threat to these extraordinarily rare animals.

In general, wolves fear humans and do not approach them. In fact, incidents involving wolves attacking humans are very rare and have never occurred in the lower 48 states. This is a crucial time for wolf recovery, and DIRECTV is fueling anti-wolf sentiments with your newest ad.

Please discontinue your anti-wolf advertisement and help ensure a better future for one of the world’s most often misunderstood animals.

Sincerely,
