Outlaw Cruel Single-Sheep Pens

  • by: Care2.com

For over a decade in Australia, factory farms such as The Wool Factory confined their sheep to tiny individual pens because they claimed it helped produce finer grade wool for suits and high-end fashion garments.

At these factory wool farms, many sheep were discovered to be chewing through the wire in their pens due to frustration and mounting stress levels. Behaviors such as head-butting and ceaseless pacing were rampant, yet the sheep were each held in solitary confinement for over half a decade.

In 2011 The Wool Factory announced that ultra-fine wool was too expensive to produce and their sheep were allowed to live outdoors again. However, no laws have been passed to ban the cruel practice and single pen sheep operations remain legal.

Sign this petition and urge the Victorian Government to ban cruel single-sheep pens.
Dear [decision-maker],

Factory farms such as "The Wool Factory" confined their sheep to tiny individual pens because they claimed it helped produce finer grade wool for suits and high-end fashion garments.

At these factory wool farms, many sheep were discovered to be chewing through the wire in their pens due to frustration and mounting stress levels. Behaviors such as head-butting and ceaseless pacing were rampant, yet the sheep were each held in solitary confinement for over half a decade.

Since then, factory wool farms including The Wool Factory have given up single-sheep penning because the wool became too expensive to produce. However, the cruel practice has not been banned by law.

I urge you to ban cruel single-sheep pens immediately.

Thank you,
