Wal-Mart: Stop Selling Assault Rifles

Wal-Mart has the power to prevent tragedies like the recent Newtown, CT shootings. The world's largest retailer could make a good faith effort to help stop this kind of violence by joining Dick's Sporting Goods in voluntarily stopping sales of assault weapons.

Assault rifles belong in war, not in our communities.

In December, Wal-Mart stated that it would continue to sell guns, including rifles like the AR-15, which was used in Newtown, Aurora, and against firefighters on Christmas Eve in upstate New York.

Wal-Mart sells several types of modern sporting rifles, the gun industry's term for firearms that look like an M-16 military rifle. After the Newtown shootings, the retailer removed the Bushmaster AR-15 from its website, but it continues to sell them in stores just as it did before.

Tell Wal-Mart: put public safety ahead of profit and stop selling assault weapons.
To Wal-Mart corporate leadership:

Please put public safety ahead of profit, and join Dick's Sporting Goods in stopping sales of assault weapons to the public.
