We support returning the Bayside veterans memorial obelisk monument back to the site of its original home in front of the Bayside LIRR train station, where it can be rightly honored by current and future residents of the community.

This monument was moved in the 1980's to the NE corner of No. Blvd/Clearview Expy. because it was the subject of graffiti. In its current location, it is relatively obscured from view which has managed to keep it graffiti-free. But in this location, it no longer serves its purpose as a memorial. The axiom, "Out of sight, out of mind" applies here. It is no longer an active part of the Bayside community and the service of those men and women whose names are inscribed upon its frame are not being honored by those very citizens to whom their service was given. We feel it should be returned to its original home where the people of Bayside and NE Queens may honor its veterans properly.
