Petition to Valve Software

We, the Admins and Scripters, respectfully request you change the default value of cl_restrict_server_commands from 1 to 0.

To:  Members of Valve Software
We, the undersigned, while believing in the importance of the integrity of the game, also believe in the importance of a gaming environment that is manageable and fun for all.

We believe the ability to administrate our servers as we see applicable is crucial to the spread of good gaming and the gaming culture as a whole.  We believe it is vital that as admins and purveyors of your software, have the ability to maintain our gaming experience at the highest possible levels.

We therefore write to petition you to reconsider the default setting of cl_restrict_server_commands from 1 to 0.  We also request that you consider input from the administrator community before any future major changes that may have an impact on the gaming communities that we foster. These changes unnecessarily threaten the very communities we work so hard to build, which not only benefits the gaming community,  but Valve itself.

The current configuration of the cl_restrict_server_commands has placed an unnecessary burden on all admins and will only weaken a community that has already been hampered by recent changes that are either ill-conceived, unnecessary, or lacking correct functionality.

We therefore call upon Valve to consider said changes listed above that would free the Admins and Scripters from creating unnecessary workarounds to allow us to properly manage the seedier side of online gamming.

Your technologies have given us an opportunity to take gaming to the highest level possible; however, we write the tools and manage the servers that spread your product universally. Together, we can only grow stronger.

Please allow us to continue to bring a vibrant gaming community that is world-class, public, and free for all people.
