DOG ROTS IN BACKYARD, PROSECUTE OWNERS

Dog Rots Away in Lonely Oklahoma Back Yard
“He only lasted as long as he did because of his will and because caring folks in the neighborhood would feed him from time to time.”

Reportedly tied to a fence post and denied food, water, and shelter for more than a month at a residence allegedly occupied by Eric Miller of Ross Street in Spavinaw, Oklahoma, a dog finally died on March 4, 2007, according to our complainants. Graphic photos of the grisly scene can be viewed here.

While PETA asked the authorities to open a criminal investigation into this dog’s alleged prolonged suffering and death, it appears that they have failed to do so. Other than a phone call from Spavinaw’s chief of police to the alleged abusers—during which, he tells us, the suspects spewed myriad excuses—we know of no actions that have been taken to ensure at least a small measure of justice for this dog.

Please politely ask the following officials to conduct a serious, in-depth investigation into the dog’s death so that the person or persons responsible are held accountable for this alleged crime:

Chief Butch McDonald
Spavinaw Police Department
500 State Hwy. 20
Spavinaw, OK 74366
918-589-2219
918-589-2699 (fax)

If you feel you’re getting nowhere with the Spavinaw Police Department, please implore the following officials to step in:

The Honorable Gene Haynes
District #12 District Attorney
Mayes County Courthouse
1 Court Pl., Ste. 250
Pryor, OK 74362
918-825-2171
918-825-6698 (fax)

Sheriff Frank Cantey
Mayes County Sheriff’s Office
1 Court Pl., Ste. 150
Pryor, OK 74361
918-825-3535
918-825-2059 (fax)
WE WANT THE OWNERS FOUND AND PROSECUTED UNDER Oklahoma law, specifically OK ST T. 21 §1685, states that “[a]ny person who shall ... deprive any such animal of necessary food, drink, shelter, or veterinary care to prevent suffering; or who shall cause, procure or permit any such animal to be … deprived of necessary food, drink, shelter, or veterinary care to prevent suffering … shall be guilty of a felony ….”
