Demand "The Summer Circus Spectacular 2014" leave the animals out of the circus show!

On behalf of the circus animals and almost ten thousand supporters who signed a petition located at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/605/934/208 , we request that your venue refuses to allow Circus Mondos’ animal shows. We welcome and applaud trapeze artists, jugglers, clowns, tightrope walkers, and acrobats, but it is time to leave the animals in peace. The Latest Shows on Earth—Cirque du Soleil, the New Pickle Family Circus, Cirque Éloize, and others—are exciting and innovative circuses that dazzle audiences without animal acts.

Animals are not actors, spectacles to imprison and gawk at, or circus clowns. Yet thousands of these animals are forced to perform silly, confusing tricks under the threat of physical punishment; are chained, caged and carted across the country in cramped and stuffy boxcars or semi-truck trailers; are kept caged in barren, boring, and filthy enclosures; and are separated from their families and friends—all for the sake of human “entertainment??” Many of these animals pay with their lives.

Have you ever stopped to consider the abusive training a circus animal must endure by their trainers so they will perform their silly tricks for humans? For animals in circuses, there is no such thing as “positive reinforcement”—only varying degrees of punishment and deprivation. To force them to perform these meaningless and physically uncomfortable tricks, trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bull hooks, and other painful tools of the trade.

These animals are being exploited. Exotic animals like elephants, lions, tigers, jaguars, apes have no place in a circus which seeks to make money by forcing these creatures to perform unnatural tricks. How are we teaching our children about the life of a Jaguar when we allow them to watch him balance on a barrel or sit on his hindquarters all at the hurting end of a whip or electric prod? Regardless of the number of generations that wild animals have been in captivity, captive-born wild animals do not lose the instincts and needs of wild animals. They retain their natural instincts to socialise and to roam freely. Circuses deny captive-born wild animals of their need to exhibit their natural behaviours.

We've all heard the stories of a circus animal "going berserk" and attacking anyone in their path. When this occurs, the animals are killed. The blame for this is 100% on the circus that owns them and everyone who supports these circuses either by hosting the circus or buying tickets.

Anyone who considers a circus animal act a child's initiation to exotic animals is teaching that child that it's perfectly acceptable to exploit animals for entertainment purposes. It is time this changes.

Many Canadian cities and towns across Canada including British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland have banned circus animals from performing in the circus.

In 2010 - Marystown Mayor Sam Synard said "When you remove an animal out of its own habitat, I think you do irreparable harm to it. Sometimes it may be necessary for breeding purposes or research purposes, but for human entertainment … we found ourselves unable to condone it any longer," said Synard.

Please tell Circus Mondo to bring all the artists they like, but leave the animals out of the show. The people of your city, province, news media and social media are watching and waiting for you to act and refuse to support circus animal cruelty in our province.

Thank You,

Original Petition - As more people become aware of the cruelty involved in forcing animals to perform, circuses that use animals are finding fewer places to set up their big tops. The use of animals in entertainment has already been restricted or banned in many cities across Canada and the U.S. as well as many countries worldwide. For instance, Bolivia, Greece, Israel, Peru, and Sweden have banned the use of all animals in circuses, and Britain has prohibited the use of wild animals in traveling circuses. Take your family to see only animal-free circuses, such as Cirque du Soleil. Purchasing a ticket for animal circuses only supports this cruelty. Hosting a circus also supports animal cruelty.

A Jaguar's life with Circus Mondo's Summer Circus Spectacular tour

A beautiful Jaguar will be forced to travel stuck in a small cage inside a transport truck travelling around the country for months with the circus. His only time outside the cage will be forced performances in loud stadiums in front of flashing lights and audiences who are getting the wrong messages about how animals should be treated. Children learn nothing about the natural behaviour of animals in a circus where their behaviour is far from natural.

The time has come for we Maritimers to say we don't find this entertaining or humane and we will no longer tolerate this travelling cruelty in our province or our country.
