Florida – Implement Stricter Charges & Penalties For All Animal Cruelty Crimes

  • by: Sue Lee

It is commendable that many steps have been taken to strengthen animal cruelty laws nationwide including the state of Florida.  Despite these victories, there are still some exceptions to felony charges for horrendous acts against animals.  You can read more at http://www.straypetadvocacy.org/html/cruelty_laws.html & http://www.azhumane.org/get-involved/be-an-advocate/animal-welfare-legislation/

As you can see by the attached articles, Florida is indeed making great strides in protecting animals yet the penalties still do not seem to fit the crime.  There is never a reason to harm an animal and they need humans to step in and ensure that abusers be held accountable for any and all forms of intentional animal cruelty.  Such proposed penalties need to ensure any and all offenses against an animal be classified as a felony.  Along with the felony offense and appropriate consequences, the offender would be listed as a registered animal abuser that would prevent future mistreatment, ownership and encounters with any animals for a lifetime, guaranteed.  Strict measurements need to be taken and fully enforced in order to put an end to such animal cruelty.

The effort in this petition is to urge the Florida State Legislators to implement stricter animal cruelty penalties that would ensure any and all offenses against an animal is classified as a felony.
