Governor Brown: Make a Long-Term Plan for California Parks

Governor Brown's 2015 budget contains good news for California State Parks: stopping closures and giving parks managers a modest funding reprieve to be able to keep parks open while they look at ways to improve park operations.

We want to make sure that lawmakers are focusing their attention on what's most important for California's parks. Please, join us in supporting efforts in these critical areas:
  • Partnerships: Urge the state of California to welcome nonprofit, local government, and business partnerships to help drive park attendance.
  • Enterprise: Creating exciting new opportunities to experience California's parks, like overnight stays and eco-friendly tours.
  • Access: Expanding the programming of California's state parks so that more Californians can know and enjoy them!

Take action today and support strong California parks through Partnerships, Enterprise, and Access!
Governor Brown:

As a supporter of California’s state parks, I applaud the actions you’ve taken to help parks by stopping closures and restoring some funding. Your recently proposed State Budget for Fiscal Year 2015-16 is a welcome sign of a renewed commitment to investing in our state parks. However, a $1.3 billion backlog of maintenance and conservation projects still remains.

Now, I am calling upon you to support long-term solutions for our parks, including incentivizing partnerships, supporting enterprise, and expanding access.

California’s state parks preserve our state’s natural and cultural heritage, provide affordable and diverse recreational opportunities, and generate revenue to sustain local economies. Our state parks are also the largest provider of educational programs outside the public school system.

I respectfully urge you to do everything in your power to ensure that these treasures remain available, accessible, and enjoyable for Californians – now and for years to come.
