Dear President Bush,
As an American who loves this country, I feel lucky to be able to help pick a leader who will best protect our land and people. Election 2004 will give me a chance to vote for someone I can be proud of.
That person will not be you, Mr. President, because frankly, I am not
proud of the direction our country is headed or how we’ve forgotten about the critical issues that affect most Americans. In the last three years, your administration has launched a devastating attack on our environment and on our health.
You supported weaker controls on mercury polluting powerplants - how will this protect our mothers and children? As asthma rates increase, your administration has fought to weaken the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, and insisted on keeping air-polluting
snowmobiles in Yellowstone, even though 80% of the American public wants stronger environmental protections.
And then, there's the attack on our wilderness - opening pristine lands up to oil drilling and logging to further our dependence on antiquated energy technologies. You've done almost nothing to help develop alternative energies or utilize existing technologies that would grant us independence from foreign oil, slow global warming, and keep America clean.
Mr. President, the list goes on and on, and it's for this reason, I regret to say that I cannot vote for you in 2004. Our country is going in the wrong direction.
I care about our people, our health, and our environment, and that is why I will not vote for you in election 2004.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME
