"We, who are signed below, ask of the media- starting with advertisements, magazines, and beauty industries to present a more realistic body image"

How media displays the ideal body type is not natural, nor is it realistic. Self-esteem is hurting many teens in our society today. In high school 44% of girls are trying to lose weight, while 70% of all girls aged 15-17 avoid normal activities- including going to school merely because of how they think they look.

As a community, please sign this petition because no woman of any age, race, shape, body type, or ethnicity should feel their beauty is not worthy enough because of the unobtainable image the media displays. There are so many young women in this world that look to the media in comparison to themselves, along with a sense of acceptance. The problem is what they're looking for, does not match reality.

On average, a woman sees about 400-600 advertisements a day! Can you imagine how many she has seen by the time she feels her self worth is unvalued? Perfection is indeed the disease of the nation. What she's seeing isn't nearly as beautiful as herself and it's time to take ownership of this.

It's time to ask the media to represent women for who we naturally are- as a diverse image, not simply the Eurocentric "Barbie" image. Let's join together and empower our women, and let them know how beautiful they actually are, as the media has a strange way of showing it.  To all my young women, you are beautiful! Tell a friend to tell a friend!
