133 million Americans live with a chronic illness. And right now, insurance companies are denying care to patients with pre-existing conditions -- for a profit.
Health insurance companies can decide which pre-existing conditions they will cover for new policyholders, which discriminates against millions of hardworking Americans who are searching for new jobs or changing companies.
Simply put, insurance companies are taking advantage of sick Americans. With promises of health care reform on the rise, we must act now to end this injustice in both the individual and employer-based insurance markets.
Ensure health insurance providers don't discriminate against or deny people insurance based on pre-existing conditions. Tell Congress to provide a choice of health care plans Americans can afford -- even people with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.
We took action on “End Health Care Discrimination Based on Pre-Existing Conditions”!

I am a two and half years breast cancer surviver and for the last fifhteen years have visited my cardiologist for a failing aortic valve . I have alway had health insurance and every six months I am told still not time to replace my valve. I have worked part time for fiftheen years at a major super market (Publix) store. I asked about going full time so I can have health insurance and was told that they have no opening for full time. 40% of the people working at our store are working with a green card. I was born in Michigan. My husband worked for AIG and his area was brought out buy Farmers insurance which close his office. I now have cobra. If I do not have any health insurance and have chest pains I will not seek any medical treatment because I do not want to have my husband and my self lose everything because of a $400,000 plus surgery cost for a valve replacement. I did have atena health insurance and they were a great (110%) company that alway paid my claims.
70% of my customers do not speak English that use ebt cards (food stamps). You should see how well dressed they are and the cars that they drive. Lots have the newest cell phones . The people that need food stamps buy rice, pasta, hamburger and chicken, not steaks.
I am fit and thin and eat healthy, never smoked and rarely drink.
Breath in his peace and God bless you.

In one moment, anyone can become labeled with a pre-existing condition. Please support this reform.

In the absence of this, I will be 3-1/2 years with no insurance awaiting Medicare before I can obtain coverage as I am currently unemployed and will be 62 in June, at which time I might retire if I have not found a job by that time. I have been looking for a year, and the prospects are not good. I would strongly recommend that this issue be pressed to include immediate coverage for ALL persons, not just the children, who have pre-existing conditions.

Everyone should have a right to medical insurance to help with health care expenses regardless of previous medical condition. What difference should it make whether they had the condition previously, or discovered it while they were already insured. Insurance is there to help with medical costs, don't descriminate people from the help they need.

Health insurance companies wield too much power. Let's not allow them to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions.

Too many people pay insurance for years - then the companies don't come through for them when needed. Shameful.

Our daughter was born with several birth defects. From birth, she has had pre-existing medical conditions. While intellectually we know the risk health insurers are trying to avoid by not insuring people with pre-existing medical conditions, emotionally and morally, we cannot fathom why those among the most needy of health insurance are denied.

Practically the minute we all are born we have some preexisting condition - get rid of this ridiculous policy - EVERYONE deserves good healthcare - not just healthy people!

I am a contractor, on COBRA from a previous job. I don't know what I'm going to do when it runs out because I've been turned down for private health insurance for pre-existing conditions. And I'm healthy! My "conditions" do not affect my ability to work. This is so unfair.

Rep. Grayson gets my vote, there are people dying out here, maybe someone should check on suicides??? I recently tried to get health insurance. They wanted a $5,000 deductible before they charged me an exorbitant rate each month! They won't change, you have to force them to change.

This country needs to grow a pair and stand up for the people, not just the unborn's right to life, but for life and health after they are born. what then? So far I have not hear one person say a thing about this, We have people out and about fighting for the unborns right to life, but what about there right for good health care, from what i'm getting from congress is that they don't want to step on the toes that slip money to them (ins) so there going to feed the poor and down and out to the wolves. If this should happen, And from pass experance concress always sales out the little guy to cover there own ass. Any way if they do this again I say we the people stand up and take way there health care and all of there benefits, cut there pay ect. ect. ect. and see how they like it, They won't they'll fight to the death to keep what they have. I just wish americans would be less greedy and more caring to each other. Will I could go on but I won't By the way in this house hold alone there are three people with chronic illness's and we are stuck with the crappy insurance that we have. we o ever mine have a good day

Everyone needs healthcare but especially those who already have preexisting conditions and yet those are the ones who have the hardest time getting health insurance so please put an end to this discrimination.
