End Health Care Discrimination Based on Pre-Existing Conditions

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: AARP
133 million Americans live with a chronic illness. And right now, insurance companies are denying care to patients with pre-existing conditions -- for a profit.

Health insurance companies can decide which pre-existing conditions they will cover for new policyholders, which discriminates against millions of hardworking Americans who are searching for new jobs or changing companies.

Simply put, insurance companies are taking advantage of sick Americans. With promises of health care reform on the rise, we must act now to end this injustice in both the individual and employer-based insurance markets.

Ensure health insurance providers don't discriminate against or deny people insurance based on pre-existing conditions. Tell Congress to provide a choice of health care plans Americans can afford -- even people with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.

Dear Representative,

Please provide a choice of health care plans Americans can afford -- even people with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.

Comprehensive health care reform is rare and difficult to accomplish, so take advantage of this historic time and make the right decisions to protect the American people.

Our daughter was born with several birth defects. From birth, she has had pre-existing medical conditions. While intellectually we know the risk health insurers are trying to avoid by not insuring people with pre-existing medical conditions, emotionally and morally, we cannot fathom why those among the most needy of health insurance are denied.

Practically the minute we all are born we have some preexisting condition - get rid of this ridiculous policy - EVERYONE deserves good healthcare - not just healthy people!

I am a contractor, on COBRA from a previous job. I don't know what I'm going to do when it runs out because I've been turned down for private health insurance for pre-existing conditions. And I'm healthy! My "conditions" do not affect my ability to work. This is so unfair.

Rep. Grayson gets my vote, there are people dying out here, maybe someone should check on suicides??? I recently tried to get health insurance. They wanted a $5,000 deductible before they charged me an exorbitant rate each month! They won't change, you have to force them to change.

This country needs to grow a pair and stand up for the people, not just the unborn's right to life, but for life and health after they are born. what then? So far I have not hear one person say a thing about this, We have people out and about fighting for the unborns right to life, but what about there right for good health care, from what i'm getting from congress is that they don't want to step on the toes that slip money to them (ins) so there going to feed the poor and down and out to the wolves. If this should happen, And from pass experance concress always sales out the little guy to cover there own ass. Any way if they do this again I say we the people stand up and take way there health care and all of there benefits, cut there pay ect. ect. ect. and see how they like it, They won't they'll fight to the death to keep what they have. I just wish americans would be less greedy and more caring to each other. Will I could go on but I won't By the way in this house hold alone there are three people with chronic illness's and we are stuck with the crappy insurance that we have. we o ever mine have a good day

Everyone needs healthcare but especially those who already have preexisting conditions and yet those are the ones who have the hardest time getting health insurance so please put an end to this discrimination.
