Stop FIPA Now

New Democrats believe in trade deals that work for Canada, not against us.
That's why we've been doing everything we can to try to stop the Canada-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Act (FIPA).
FIPA will give China’s state-controlled companies the same protection under the law as private Canadian companies. In effect, it will give China access to and control over Canada’s natural resources for the next 31 years.
The Conservatives negotiated this bill in secret, without consulting Canadians, because they know that Canadians would never stand for it.
Let's tell Stephen Harper it's time to admit his mistake and to stop the sellout of our resources.

We the undersigned residents of Canada note the following:
- FIPA will allow foreign corporations the right to sue Canadian governments for legislating in the public interest and protecting our environment.
- FIPA will give China's state-owned corporations access to and control over Canada's natural resources.
- FIPA allows disputes to be heard by unaccountable tribunals with no public access.
- FIPA was negotiated in secret without consultation or debate.
- FIPA will lock Canada in for 31 years.

Therefore, we call on the Government of Canada to abandon this trade deal and enter negotiations for a fair trade agreement that maintains Canadian control of our natural resources.
