Children living with untreated clefts struggle their whole lives. Please join in and take a stand for helping to save as many children as possible.
Little Osawa from Tanzania was one of the more than 170,000 children who are born with a cleft in developing countries every year. He wasn’t able to smile and he had difficulty breathing, eating and drinking. Because of his appearance Osawa wasn’t accepted by his schoolmates.
But there is a solution that helps children like Osawa – a surgery lasting as little as 45 minutes and costing as little as 200 Euros. However, in countries where people have to live on less than two Euros a day, most families cannot afford this.
This is why Smile Train has been in the field since 1999 providing 100%-free surgery for children with clefts. Every five minutes we change the life of a child. We also train local partner surgeons, who can operate year-round on children in their communities.
Osawa was our one millionth patient. At our partner hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's biggest city, cleft surgeon Dr. Wayi repaired his cleft. Today Osawa has many friends at school. But millions of children with clefts are still waiting for life-changing surgery. Please add your name and show that you support children with clefts!
